Krystyna Slany - specializes in social demography, sociology of migration and sociology of family and gender studies. She headed the Department of Intersectional Social Research, which existed until 2023, and previously headed the Department of Population Research at the Institute of Sociology of the Jagiellonian University. She continues the tradition of demographic interests developed at the Institute of Sociology by her master Prof. Wanda Czarkowska.

She is a member of the Migration Research Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, was a member of the Committee on Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences for three terms, a long-time member of the Demographic Research Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences. She is a member of the Program Council of the quarterly "Migration Studies - Polish Review" and the editorial board of the "Central and Eastern European Migration Review". She represented sociological sciences in the Council for Scientific Excellence until 2023.

She has led many international research projects. She currently directs the project Gender, mobilities and migration during and post COVID-19 pandemic - vulnerability, resilience and renewal, Trans-Atlantic Platform for Social Sciences and Humanities - Recovery, Renewal and Resilience in a Post-Pandemic World, https://www.genmigra.org.
